Benton Harbor firefighters investigating cause of 'suspicious' fire at River Terrace Apartments

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety is investigating a fire at the River Terrace Apartments Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene, in the 200 block of River Terrace Drive, at 1 p.m. for the incident.

Upon arriving, crews were met with heavy fire coming from the front and back of one apartment unit.

The impacted unit was heavily damaged and two units on either side were minorly damaged in the fire.

Crews were able to put out the flames in about 20 minutes.

No one was injured and no one was living in the apartment at the time.

The Benton Harbor Fire Marshal said the cause of the fire appears suspicious but is still under investigation.
