Person of interest in custody in Benton Harbor double homicide investigation

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – A person of interest is in custody in an investigation into the deaths of two people in Benton Harbor on Friday, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety reported.

Police say Dwand Dontrell Carter is a person of interest in this incident.

At 3:30 p.m., officers arrived to the 700 block of Buss Street to investigate reports of gunfire.

When they arrived, officers found two bodies in a vehicle.

The victims, a 37-year-old female and a 38-year-old male, both residents of Benton Harbor, were deceased when officers found them.

Their names are not being released at the family’s request.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
