Benton Harbor receives grant for new fire equipment

The city of Benton Harbor announced its Public Safety Department received a grant for $263,973 from the state of Michigan.

The award was made through the Financially Distressed Cities, Villages, and Townships grant program.

The department will use the grant to purchase equipment for the fire department.

They will be using the funds to purchase a new compressor system to fill air bottles, replacing the self-contained breathing apparatus for every public safety officer.

Grants were awarded to 14 cities throughout the state.
