Benton Harbor school district cancels school for Thursday

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Benton Harbor Area Schools Superintendent Andrae Townsel announced Wednesday night that classes are canceled on Thursday for every school in the district due to the water main breaking near West Klock and 8th Street.

That water main breaking on Wednesday afternoon caused a large portion of Benton Harbor residents and buildings to lose access to water.

This closure means students and staff members of The Discovery Enrichment Center, Martin Luther King Jr., Fair Plain Elementary, Benton Harbor High School, and the Career and Alternative Pathways in Education Center will not have class on Thursday.

Superintendent Townsel also says that he anticipates classes will be able to resume on Friday.
