Benton Harbor superintendent speaks out about loaded gun at high school

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The superintendent of Benton Harbor Schools has spoken about a gun inside a high school classroom.

Last month police arrested 18-year-old Elijah Beauford at Benton Harbor High School. They said he had a loaded gun on him inside the school, and found out from a tip.

At Tuesday’s board meeting, Superintendent Leonard Seawood said the school's metal detectors are working at the school, but somehow this gun slipped through.

Seawood said the district works with Michigan State Police to make sure all security checks are up to date and the school is safe for students.
