Benton Township police investigating shooting at apartment complex

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – The Benton Charter Township Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person injured Wednesday afternoon.

At 12:50 p.m., officers were called to the 1900 block of E. Britain Avenue for a victim who had been shot in a parking lot.

When police arrived, they found a 20-year-old victim inside the complex with apparent gunshot wounds to the left thigh, right and left lower legs, and right shoulder.

The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned a teal/aqua-colored, mid-size SUV had been at the scene and that the suspect, a male wearing a dark-colored mask and glasses, shot at the victim from the passenger side of the vehicle, reports said.

Witnesses said the SUV was last seen leaving the apartment complex headed west on E. Britain Avenue.

No suspect has been located at this time.
