Berrien County corrections officer fired

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey confirmed Monday a corrections officer has been fired.

Corrections Officer Jennifer Venno was fired for improper communications with an inmate, according to Bailey.

The prosecutor’s office reviewed the case in April but declined prosecution.

Bailey says he is unable to elaborate on how Venno improperly communicated with the inmate because it is a personnel matter.

Bailey also said anyone under his command is not allowed to associate with a convicted felon unless it is part of their police work.

We have tried to reach out to Venno for comment but have been unable to get in touch with her.
