Berrien County Health Department names official health officer
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Acting health officer of the Berrien County Health Department, Guy Miller, has been elevated to the permanent role effective Thursday.
Miller has held the acting position since November of 2021, and was unanimously approved to the new role by the Berrien County Board of Commissioners.
County Administrator Brian Dissette is confident in the board’s decision based on how Miller has performed in the role so far.
“In the past seven months as acting health officer, Miller has proven to be an intelligent, compassionate leader who is well-equipped to serve the community in this role permanently. We are excited to formalize his appointment and work alongside Guy as he continues to expand the reach and programming of the health department,” said Dissette.
Miller’s position includes the oversight of more than 85 fulltime staff members to advise units of the public on the most safe and efficient health practices.
Officials also point to his instrumental role in leading the county’s COVID-19 response as a factor in their decision, and believes that Miller will continue to help build a stronger and healthier Berrien County.
