Berrien County Health Department will offer free water filters to city water customers

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Berrien County Health Department will be offering free water filters Benton Harbor City Water Customers.

The health department is offering filters that will help reduce the risk of lead exposure in drinking water.

The water filters will be available at no cost to customers at the following times and locations:

  • Thursday, Feb. 7 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. 
    • Harbor of Hope Church – 769 Pipestone, Benton Harbor
  • Friday, Feb. 8 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Benton Harbor Charter Academy – 455 Riverview Dr, Benton Harbor
  • Saturday, Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Benton Harbor High School – 870 Colfax Ave, Benton Harbor
  • Monday, Feb. 11 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Harbor of Hope Church – 769 Pipestone, Benton Harbor
  • Friday, Feb. 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Benton Harbor Charter Academy – 455 Riverview Dr, Benton Harbor

Some dates have been rescheduled due to current weather conditions:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 13 event is rescheduled for Feb.20 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • First Presbyterian Church at 475 Green Ave, Benton Harbor
  • Thursday, Feb. 14 is rescheduled for Feb. 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Benton Harbor Charter Academy 455 Riverview, Benton Harbor

The Berrien County Health Department encourages City of Benton Harbor water customers to take part in the free water filters as a precaution.

The health department is also continuing to offer blood testing and blood level monitoring for any children under the age of six throughout the county.

Those wishing to have their children under the age of six tested can visit the following locations:

  • InterCare Community Health Network at 800 M-139 in Benton Harbor
  • Spectrum Health Lakeland Center for Outpatient Services at 3900 Hollywood Road in St. Joseph
  • Berrien County Health Department at 2149 E. Napier Ave in Benton Harbor
