Berrien County official Lori Jarvis dies, office closed until Monday

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Berrien County's Register of Deeds, Lori Jarvis, died Thursday. The Register of Deeds office closed Thursday and will remain closed Friday.

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, released the following statement:

What a tremendous, tragic loss for our community. Lori was a wonderful mother, wife, and friend.

I knew her for decades. She was so well respected. It’s very sad. Her legacy of dedicated public service will live on and for that we are all grateful. Amey and I are sending our thoughts and prayers to her entire family.

Michigan Senator John Proos, R-St. Joseph released the following statement:

I'm deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and community leader Lori Jarvis. Lori loved her family and southwest Michigan. Her public service as Register of Deeds was innovative to ensure accessibility to the county residents she served. I enjoyed Lori’s passion and bold leadership whether crafting legislation, working together in the community, or at our kids soccer games. My prayers will remain with her husband Butch and their family during the coming days and weeks.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday June 15 at Western Michigan University School of Medicine.
