Berrien County police departments using military vehicles

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- A handful of police departments in Berrien County are now using military vehicles.

St. Joseph Public Safety showed off its new Humvee and ATV.

The department just got them from the military, for free.

They are easy to drive on the sand. Thus cutting down on the time it takes to respond to rescues on the beach.

"It's a tremendous asset to have rather than have to run on foot onto a scene to help somebody we can get out there with this vehicle now," Chief Mark Clapp of the St. Joseph Public Safety Department said.

The Berrien Springs police department and Benton Harbor Public Safety also qualified for the program.
