Berrien County pursuit on I-94 leads to three arrests

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- On Tuesday, July 1 at 9:40 p.m., a traffic stop was attempted to be conducted by a Berrien County Sheriff patrol officer on a blue Cadillac for speeding going eastbound on I-94 near the 22-mile marker in Lincoln Township.

The pursuit was initiated when the driver of the Cadillac failed to stop when signaled and the pursuit reached Benton Township. The driver of the Cadillac crashed into a wooded area along U.S. 31 near Napier Ave.

Three suspects of the Cadilliac fled the scene of the crash on foot. Drones and police canines were deployed.

A rifle and handgun were located while police were searching the Cadillac, and all three occupants were arrested.

The three suspects of the Cadilliac were from Illinois and taken to the Berrien County Jail. A 24-year-old female and a 20-year-old male were taken to jail for obstructing and resisting police. A 25-year-old male was also taken to jail for several weapons crimes, eluding and fleeing from police, and obstructing and resisting police.

Benton Township Police assisted the Berrien County Sheriff's Department. The Berrien County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case.
