Bethel College featured as a 'College of Distinction'

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Bethel College has been selected to the 2011 – 2012 Colleges of Distinction™ published guide and website.

Schools recognized as Colleges of Distinction are commended for their commitment and performance of the Four Distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes.

Colleges of Distinction™ departs from traditional rankings system that judge schools based mainly on admission selection standards and process, and little on the quality of education received.

“Schools selected as Colleges of Distinction™ create well-rounded graduates and are among the very best in the country,” reports Tyson Schritter, executive editor of Colleges of Distinction™. “While each school is one of a kind, they all share a common theme; they are all great places to get a well-rounded education.”

The guide provides students, counselors, and parents with information about colleges and universities that take a holistic approach to admissions, consistently excel in providing undergraduate education, and have a truly national reputation.

Colleges of Distinction’s selection process involves reviewing hard numbers including faculty/student ratios and average class size while also looking at a school's first year experience, general education curriculum, experiential elements in the curriculum, residential and extra- curricular activities and the school's strategic plan.

“It is more important to know where a school is going than where it has been, and we look for signs of upward trends and innovative approaches that really work,” says Schritter.

Offering dynamic college profiles and easy-to-use search tools, the website also includes tips from high school guidance counselors, essays from college students, presidents and other members of campus communities. This fall, Colleges of Distinction will be providing its e-guidebook free of charge to more than 25,000 high school counselors across the country.
