Birth control not covered by Catholic non-profits

A last minute ruling from Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor could temporarily delay health insurance coverage for contraceptives for some Catholic non-profit groups.

Birth control coverage is mandated by the Affordable Care Act but many Catholic institutions, including the University of Notre Dame, object to it.

Notre Dame requested that their health insurance not be required to cover birth control but a federal judge denied that request.

Notre Dame Officials said Sotomayor's final ruling in this matter this Friday could have an impact on how Notre Dame moves forward with its own case.
