Blinged up bras raise breast cancer awareness

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Dozens of decorated brassieres will be on display at a Michiana event in celebration of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Bras around the Bend will take place Thursday, Oct. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Le Peep café in downtown South Bend. The event will celebrate the fight against breast cancer by showcasing brassiere art created by community leaders, local artists and cancer survivors. Attendees will enjoy appetizers, a cash bar, a silent and live brassier art auction, and more.

Individuals, businesses and organizations from all around Michiana decorated and donated the brassieres in support of Bras around the Bend, including former Indiana Governor Joe Kernan, Michiana Hematology Oncology's Advanced Centers for Cancer Care, Saint Joseph Regional Breast Care Center, Memorial Regional Breast Care Center, the University of Notre Dame, Tire Rack, Whackycat Creations, Valley Screen Process, Flourish, Women Business Owners of South Bend, Laugh Out Loud, the Art of Kathy Leib, Ann Rudasics and more.

Tickets to Bras around the Bend are $25 and can be purchased online at www.RiverBendCancerServices.com. All proceeds will help provide medicine, nutritional supplements, counseling, wigs, bras, prosthetics and more for people in the community battling cancer.

Bras around the Bend is sponsored by Cancer Care Partners, Goethals and Wells Funeral Home, McDonald Physical Therapy, Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Palmer Funeral Homes, Robin Zon, MD, Gary Ludwig and U93.

RiverBend Cancer Services is a not-for-profit organization working to improve the lives of local cancer patients and their families through early intervention and prevention programs. RiverBend has been providing support services and programs for local families since 1943.
