Blue and Gold Game at Notre Dame

The annual Blue and Gold football game was held Saturday at Notre Dame. The invitation-only scrimmage was the first look at the 2015 group in action.

All eyes were on the quarterbacks.

Previous starter Everett Golson and backup Malik Zaire are competing for the starting position.

“We really wanted to center this game particularly in the first half around the quarterbacks,” Coach Brian Kelly said.

Kelly said he worked on offense as a whole during this game.

“Today was a day that we really wanted to emphasize the run game and get our offensive line working together and get into a good rhythm,” Kelly said.

But in the end, the gold team, defense, pulled out a tight 37 to 34 win, without the help of Notre Dame's first string quarterbacks.

“When you get out on that field, whether you're in front of 83,000 or 4,000, it's still a game,” Kelly said.
