Body recovered from Lake Michigan has been identified

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Indiana Conservation Officers and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office reported that they have identified the body that was recovered from Lake Michigan on Tuesday.

The identity of the victim is currently being withheld as officials wait for notification from the victim’s next of kin.

An autopsy completed Wednesday shows the victim’s cause of death is consistent with drowning, the Indiana DNR says.

Indiana DNR reported that the United States Coast Guard responded and recovered the man from Lake Michigan at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard recovered the body just offshore from the Michigan City Lighthouse, the DNR says.

The Indiana Conservation Officers and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office will continue investigating this case.
