Boys and Girls Clubs hosting free event for local foster kids

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County is hosting a free event this weekend for local foster kids and their families to connect and have fun.

“Foster the Fun” takes place on April 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Clubs site on Sample Street in South Bend.

The event is the first project for The Keystone Club, a teen leadership group from the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County, looking to give back to a community that’s close to home for many of them.

The idea sprung from one Keystone Club member who won a grant from the South Bend Awesome Fund for his idea to unite foster children in the area for a night of food, games, dancing, music, and prizes.

“I’m so proud of our teens and staff for spearheading this event,” said Jacqueline Kronk, Chief Executive Officer. “Nine percent of our Club Members are in foster care. The Club is a place to connect with others, cultivate friendships, and have the support of positive adult role models. We want to extend the invitation to more kids to come be part of our community here.”

The event is open to foster families and kids ages nine to 18 who are in foster care.

Masks are required and COVID safety precautions will be in place.
