One dead in explosion at private oil pumping station in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- According to Cass County dispatch, an explosion has taken place at a privately owned oil pumping station in Cass County near the 19000 block of Bulhand St.

The call came in around 3:50 p.m.

"At 3:50 I heard a huge boom, like a mortar went off. It shook my house and I thought someone hit my house with a car," said Donielle Watson, who lives in the area. "Within 10 minutes the emergency services started showing up."

The Cass County Sheriff's Department has confirmed the explosion killed one person. That person was later identified as 71-year-old Charles Lawrence.
