BREAKING: Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray says Indiana congressional maps wont' be redrawn

Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray

INDIANAPOLIS -- A statement has just been released by Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray announcing the Senate won't move forward with redrawing state's congressional maps due to a lack of votes.

"Over the last several months, Senate Republicans have given very serious and thoughtful consideration to the concept of redrawing our state's congressional maps. Today, I'm announcing there are not enough votes to move that idea forward, and the Senate will not reconvene in December," said Bray.

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun released the following statement:

“I called for our legislators to convene to ensure Hoosiers’ voices in Washington, DC are not diluted by the democrats’ gerrymandering. Our state senators need to do the right thing and show up to vote for fair maps. Hoosiers deserve to know where their elected officials stand on important issues."

Indiana Senate Minority Leader Shelli Yoder (D-Bloomington) issued the following statement:

“Hoosiers stopped this. Not Donald Trump. Not Governor Braun. Hoosiers.

Let’s be very clear about why we were even here. Washington insiders pressured the Governor to rig Indiana’s congressional maps in the middle of a decade for one reason. They were afraid of voters. They were afraid of losing power the honest way.

This should have never been considered. Not for one day. Not for one dollar. Not while families across our state are struggling to afford groceries, childcare, health care and energy bills.

Now that this reckless idea has collapsed, our focus can return to where it should have been all along. Hoosiers. Their budgets. Their safety. Their health. Their future.

Our caucus is ready to get back to work on real solutions that lower costs, strengthen communities and make life better for every family in Indiana. That is the work voters sent us here to do and with Session 2026 around the corner, we won’t stop.”

Assistant Minority Leader State Sen. Andrea Hunley released the following statement:

"This moment is because of every Hoosier who showed up, called or emailed demanding that our elections not be rigged to please one man. Over the course of over three months, Hoosiers never once relented, and now the message is clear.

We won't be strongarmed into passing overtly racist maps that target our most diverse counties and work to silence the families who call them those counties home. I urge every Hoosier who feels like their voice doesn't matter to remember this moment.

Just because our legislature is a supermajority, it does not mean every outcome is predetermined. Though the odds are often stacked against us, good is always worth fighting for, and we must continue that work.

Session 2026 is still right around the corner, and we know too many Hoosiers are struggling to afford groceries, their power bills, health care and more.

I am committed to fighting for policies that work to see Hoosiers not just get by, but thrive—we need Hoosiers to keep showing up to get us there, and I know they will."
