UPDATE: One arrested after shots rang out near U.S. Bankruptcy Court in South Bend Wednesday evening

UPDATE (11:46 p.m.): 29-year-old Juan Moreno of South Bend has been arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness in connection with the shooting on the 400 block of S. Michigan Street.

Moreno is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail while he awaits a formal charging decision form the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.

UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department received a call at approximately 4:15 p.m. on a report of a shooting and were dispatched to the 400 block of S. Michigan Street.

Upon the officers arriving, a female victim was located and appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

While to shooting occurred outside the United States Bankruptcy Court building, police state that at this time there is no preliminary evidence to connect the shooting to the court building.

All members involved in this incident have been accounted for and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

This still remains and active and ongoing investigation. 

ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department has confirmed that multiple shots have been fired at the U.S. Bankruptcy court in South Bend Wednesday evening. 

One victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The court is located at 204 S. Main St. in South Bend and the public is asked to stay away from the area.
