Bremen police share suspect description, warning to community following early morning assault
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Police in Bremen sharing new details with ABC57 regarding their warning about a man approaching local women who are walking alone.
Early Monday morning before 6am, Bremen Police were alerted of two instances where women walking alone were approached by an unknown male suspect.
Police say one woman was assaulted.
It prompted the Bremen Police Department to share a Community Safety Alert to Facebook Monday morning.
"Bremen is a small town, it's a great community, but we're not immune to bad actors and this is a good reminder of that," says Trent Miles, a Detective at the Bremen Police Department.
Bremen Police are actively working to identify the 'bad actor'.
A description of the suspect was shared with ABC57:
- 20–30-year-old male
- Darker complexion
-Approximately 5'9"
-Weighing between 150-250 lbs.
-Wearing all black
-Riding an electric dirtbike
Police say both incidents happened on the west side of town but aren't being too specific about location due to the integrity of the investigation.
"Everybody should be vigilant about their surroundings," says Miles.
As police investigate, they ask everyone in Bremen to be on high alert and call back to common safety tips.
"Practice good safety etiquette. So, if you're walking, try to walk with somebody else, be aware of your surroundings, let people know your location, where you're going to be at. Have a way of calling for help if you need to," Miles advises. "But most importantly, just be aware of your surroundings, trust your gut, if something isn't right, try to call 911 if you can, if you can, try to get to the nearest business or residence or something like that for help."
With students heading back to the classroom in Bremen on Wednesday, police say they are planning to increase their patrol in residential areas on top of their regular school patrols as an extra caution.
The police department also urges anyone with relevant information about the suspect or anyone that experiences a similar encounter to report it.
