Bristol man behind bars after leading police on a chase

GRANGER, Ind. -- A police chase in Saint Joseph County came to an explosive end on Tuesday.

It started with a traffic stop outside of a McDonalds on State Road 23, but then police say the driver took off in his pickup truck.

Police followed 32 year-old Ryan Shenefield down State Road 23, and watched as he tried to pass another truck, spun out of control, and crashed near Crooked Oak Road.

Police say he somehow managed to climb out of the driver's side window and ended up with just minor neck pain.

“Things turned out, I guess, for the best, if you could say. This could have quickly ended tragically. You can see the amount of damage done to the pickup truck, and the telephone pole, and really the gentleman that was involved in the crash is lucky to be walking away from it,” said Sgt. Trent with the Indiana State Police.

Shenefield was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement, driving as a habitual traffic violator, and being in possession of stolen property.

The license plate that Shenefield had on his pickup was reported stolen off a car.
