BUCHANAN, Mich. -- Senator Kim LaSata of Niles announced Buchanan High School as the winner of the 2022 Southwest Michigan Spirit Tournament on Monday.

They won with a total vote of 316. Niles High School was second place with a vote of 199.

31 Southwest Michigan high schools competed in four brackets in the regional tournament that commenced February 28.

Voting closed April 1.

“Hats off to the Bucks for their win this year,” said LaSata. “I’d also like to congratulate the rival Vikings for putting up good numbers and making it a great competition. It’s great to see these communities come out to support students and display their school spirit.”
