Buchanan Middle School is gearing up for the start of the school year

Workers are getting Buchanan Middle School ready for the school year after vandals broke into the school and caused significant damage. The beginning of the school year was pushed back because the school wasn't ready.

On Saturday, August 15th, Buchanan Middle School was broken into. The damage included the main water piping and the ventilation system.

But, in less than a month, the school board has turned this disaster around.

In a press release, dated September 4th, Superintendent Dr. Andrea van der Laan, explained some of the many repairs taking place before school starts.

“Buchanan Middle School is progressing nicely! The ventilation systems have been repaired and the air conditioning became operational, water systems are up and running, classrooms are being carpeted, the media center carpet is progressing and ceiling tiles in the main corridor are installed. The gym floor is being sanded and sealed this week."

Middle schoolers will have their orientation at the high school Thursday night.

The 7th graders will have their orientation at 5:30.

The 6th grade will follow at 6:30.

And the 5th grade will end the night at 7:30.

The first day of classes is Monday September 14th.
