Business selling Notre Dame memorabilia expands
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A business near the Notre Dame campus specializes in selling rare Fighting Irish merchandise. Because the team has done so well over the past couple years, the shop has had to expand to meet the need.
What started as a childhood hobby has now become a passion.
"We take it for granted. I mean, it's one of the greatest universities not just in this country, but in the world," said Jim Augustine, owner of Augie's Locker Room.
A world Augie is trying to paint blue and gold.
This year he's moved shop from his original location on State Road 23 to a new place just a few doors down thanks to Notre Dame's success on the football field.
"Everything was moving fast. Everybody was excited. People were coming in - needed to get that fix," said Augustine.
Business was so good last year, he had to expand just to make room for all the new items.
Things like the football helmet from last year's game against Miami - an original stadium goal post, even cleats worn by the team in Ireland.
"I'm not motivated by profit. I do this as a hobby. People come in and we visit - we talk - so that's why I like to do this," said Augustine.
While the team may not be playing as well as last year, a top 25 ranking -still helps.
He says this year people just as interested in Notre Dame.
