California woman arrested in La Porte County on methamphetamine charge

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - A California woman was arrested on a methamphetamine charge during a traffic stop in La Porte County on Monday, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

At 2:07 p.m., a deputy patrolling on the Indiana Toll Road was parked in the median near mile marker 48 when he saw a vehicle with its front windows tinted so darkly, the deputy could not see the driver's face, according to reports.

The deputy followed the vehicle and saw the driver allegedly make an improper lane change near mile marker 50.

The deputy pulled over the vehicle near mile marker 52 and as the traffic stop progressed, a K9 brought to the stop alerted to the smell of narcotics in the vehicle.

Deputies searched the passenger compartment of the vehicle and found a bag containing a white, crystalline substance, reports said.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 53-year-old Machelle Wooddall of Stockton, California, was arrested on one count of possession of methamphetamine.

She is being held at the La Porte County Jail on a $20,005 cash bond.
