Calls to DCS Ombudsman up 42 percent

INDIANA -- The state of Indiana’s Department of Child Services in under fire.

A new report shows calls and complaints to the agencies' Ombudsman was up 42 percent between 2010 and 2011.

The Ombudsman investigated 64 cases last year. In 20 of them, she issued findings that the state agency made missteps in protecting children from abuse and neglect.

State lawmakers created the ombudsman position after getting continued calls the DCS needed be held more accountable.
