Can the Irish start a win streak after gaining their first win of the season?
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame looking to start a streak in a win against North Carolina after beating Cal.
It was a rough start for the Irish in their third game of the season, but after a viral video of offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, giving his starting quarterback Drew Pyne a pep talk, things eventually turned around.
“Certain guys need certain types of coaching in certain moments,” said Rees.
For Drew Pyne, it was understanding how much his team needed him to turn things around. Eventually leading to a stat line of 17 for 23 pass attempts, 150 yards, and two touchdowns.
But how can the offense have another productive Saturday in week four, against the undefeated North Carolina Tar Heels on the road?
“We definitely executed together a lot more but still not quite where we want to be yet. Just focusing on building off each performance,” said Offensive Lineman Zeke Correll.
As for the defense, the Irish should feel good after a productive afternoon against Cal, but will need to increase the intensity against a Tar Heels team that averages over 50 points per game.
“They have a quarterback that can beat you with his arm or his legs. So, great challenge for us,” said Defensive Coordinator Al Golden.
“We’re focused on making sure our gaps are completely sealed. Makin sure that the quarterback has little or no time as possible and just basically giving him stress all game,” Defensive Lineman Howard Cross added.
