GRANGER, Ind. -- Officials confirmed that 2 people are dead and 2 others are in critical condition following a rescue effort in which a minivan was submerged in a retention pond in the 600 block of University Drive in Granger Tuesday afternoon.

The two deceased individuals died at the hospital.

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m.

A preliminary toxicology report shows that drug and alcohol were not a factor.

Mishawaka Fire says there were four people in the vehicle at the time of the crash, an adult and three children.

Vahid Sadrzadeh saw one person pulled out of the black mini van while the vehicle was still submerged. Then, the vehicle was brought to the surface and a child was pulled from the vehicle.
