Car, semi-truck with trailer strike same downed tree, leaves one injured
ABC 57 CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A 53-year-old Dowagiac man was injured early Monday morning after striking a downed tree before a semi-truck with trailer struck the same tree.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash around 4:09 a.m., just south of the intersection of Calvin Center Road and Mount Zion Street in Calvin Township.
The preliminary investigation determined a vehicle, driven by the Dowagiac man, was traveling south on Calvin Center Road when he struck a downed tree in the road.
After the initial crash, a semi-truck hauling a trailer, driven by a 60-year-old Colorado man, struck the same downed tree while heading north on Calvin Center Road.
The semi driver then lost control of the trailer, which struck the other vehicle.
The Dowagiac man was taken to Lakeland Niles Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
