Car struck by two trains in Mishawaka Thursday night

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Mishawka Police confirmed a car was struck by two trains at the South Logan Street crossing for Norfolk Southern Railroad.

Police say the driver, a 39-year-old South Bend man, informed them he drove across the tracks as the crossing arms were coming down.

The man said he was nearly across when his vehicle was struck by a westbound train.

The man was able to exit his vehicle before it was then struck by an eastbound train.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries to be treated.

Police remind the public when the lights are flashing, and the gates are down, or coming down, don't try to cross the tracks.
