Car theft ends in a crash that sends two people to the hospital, police say

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Police reported that officers from the Michigan City Police Department were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday for a call concerning a stolen car on the 3400 block of Franklin Street.

Police say an officer spotted the vehicle in question of being stolen, a 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora, and initiated a pursuit.

While in a chase, police say the driver of the Aurora disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Hoyt Street and Earl Road before colliding with another vehicle, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, that had the right of way.

Police say the driver of the Chevrolet was transported for treatment and was later flown to a South Bend hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is a 17-year-old that is being treated for serious injuries at a hospital, police say.
