Cass County Sheriff investigating alleged home invasion shooting

VOLINIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a home invasion that involved a shooting on Friday in the 20000 block of Marcellus Highway in Volinia Township, according to Sheriff Richard Behnke.

When deputies arrived, the found 35-year-old Jonathon Niswonger and 34-year-old Shasta Blankenmyer at the residence. Blankemyer lives at the home.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Niswonger told deputies that a 34-year-old male from elkhart forced his way into the residence.

When inside, Niswonger and the male became involved in a physical altercation.

Niswonger then shot the male in his abdomen, who left the scene in his vehicle and was later found at Elkhart General Hospital.

The male is being treated for his gunshot wound.

The name of the man is being withheld pending a review by the Cass County Prosecutor's Office.

No one has yet to be arrested for this incident.

An investigation is underway.
