Victor A. Fitz CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- In a letter dated May 11, 2026, Cass County Prosecutor Victor A. Fitz announced his resignation.
Fitz states his final day in the position will be May 19.
Fitz' letter states in part:
"It has been a tremendous honor to serve with the men and women of law enforcement---as well as many other determined partners---who, daily promote justice and the protection of our community.
In particular, I wish to acknowledge and thank my office staff, both past and present, for their selfless dedication to our mission. It has always been our objective to aggressively further public safety, justice and the protection of crime victims."

Per MCL 168.209, Cass County Circuit Judge Mark A. Herman will appoint the next Cass County Prosecuting Attorney following Fitz' resignation.
County officials say the appointed individual will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term, which runs through 2028.
If the appointee wanted to continue beyond that, they'd have to run in the2028 General Election.
