Cass County receives grant for over $65K to remove McMillan Dam

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced $14.9 million through the Dam Risk Reduction Grant Program was authorized by the Michigan Legislature for maintenance, removals, and reconstruction of 19 dams across the state.
The Cass County Drain Commissioner in Marcellus will receive a $65,800 grant to remove the McMillan Dam.
County officials say this will restore natural stream flow, improve hydraulic conveyance, enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitats and reduce risks associated with dam failure, sediment buildup, and poor water quality.
