CASSOPLIS, Mich. - Community members came together honoring Black History Month and a delayed Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration with guest speakers, singing, and scripture at The United Presbyterian Church in Cassopolis, Sunday.
Sunday was the 25th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at the church.
Local students shared essays on influential people of color, past and present.
The event combined Black History Month with Martin Luther King Jr. Day since the January event was canceled due to bad weather.
The service acted as a prayer for peace in the community.
Brian Madison, Pastor at United Presbyterian Church, stated, "The only way for the next generation to understand the situation that we find ourselves in our nation and the world today is to learn our history and to be inspired by those who brought about positive changes in the past."
