Cedar Point postpones opening amid COVID-19 concerns

SANDUSKY, Ohio—On Friday, Cedar Point announced that it is now planning on a mid-May opening date and will continue to follow national and local health directives related to COVID-19.

Castaway Bay Resort is currently closed, according to a message from CEO of Cedar Fair Entertainment Company Richard Zimmerman. The company hopes to reopen the hotel in mid-May.

The company is planning to open Cedar Point, all Cedar Point resort properties, and the Cedar Point Marinas in “mid-May or soon thereafter as possible.”

It’s unclear if the park is planning to keep its original grand opening date of May 9. The company’s message said the calendar was being updated and more information would be available soon.

Guests with questions about existing reservations or prepaid day tickets that are specific to the park closure time period should visit the park’s website.

For 2020 season pass holders, Cedar Point will be adding days to the park’s operating calendar to accommodate the temporary park closure.

The 2020 season marks the park's 150th Anniversary. Many events and promotions are planned for the season to mark the milestone.
