SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Fat Tuesday dates back to the early 1700s and reflects the practice of eating rich and fatty foods before Lenten season begins.
When it comes to Lent, people usually choose to give up things like sweets, coffee or alcohol.
While we aren’t in New Orleans, you can still celebrate Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras right here in Michiana.
Howard Park on Jefferson Boulevard will host Mardi Gras on Ice from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight for $10 per person.
In Elkhart, the Saint David of Wales Episcopal Church is having an Italian supper from 5 to 7 p.m. That's $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Chicory Café in both South Bend and Mishawaka will offer specials today on Mardi Gras style food like jambalaya and beignets. The South Bend location will also have a live band, face painting and a tarot card reader tonight.
