Cemetery sexton charged with embezzlement

The cemetery sexton of Hartford Township has been charged with embezzlement after an investigation into missing funds was conducted by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department.

In January, the Hartford Township Board requested the sheriff's department investigate alleged missing funds that were the responsibility of Cemetery Sexton Gerrie Heskett.

A forensic auditor assisted the sheriff's department in the investigation.

The results of the investigation were turned over to the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office.

Charges were authorized this week for embezzlement between the amounts of $50,000 and $100,000.

Heskett was arraigned Tuesday.

She will be in court again on July 5.
