Charges filed in Shamiya Adams' shooting death

CHICAGO -- Charges have been filed in the death of a 11-year-old Chicago girl.

At a news conference Thursday police announced they have charged 18-year-old Tevin Lee with murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

11-year-old Shamiya Adams was playing inside a home Friday night with six other girls when a stray bullet came through a window and hit her in the head.

Police believe the crime is gang related.

"Just one more example of how these criminal organizations, these gangs, are negatively impacting communities our residents live in and that we are sworn to serve and protect," said Garry McCarthy Chicago Police Superintendent.
