Chicago cop rescues family of 6 from fire

CHICAGO -- A Chicago police officer rushed into a burning building to save a woman and her five children.

The officer says he was a block away when he heard the 911 call about the fire.

Despite not having any firefighting equipment, the officer kicked in the door to get inside.

He said he automatically went into rescue mode.

"I had to do what I had to do. I got caught up in the moment," said Officer Edward Leighton, Chicago police department.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation but everyone will be okay.
