Chicago man drives car into the St. Joseph River

ST JOSEPH, Mich. -- At 3:38 a.m. on Thursday, the Saint Joseph Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a call of an occupied vehicle in the water.

The first responders arrived at the Lighthouse Condominiums at 200 Lake Street to find Sean Todman of Chicago, Ill. lost control of his vehicle in the parking lot and drove over the curb into the St. Joseph River.

A bystander, Elizabeth Davidson of St Joseph jumped into the river after Todman. Both Todman and Davidson were found by first responders on the roof of the vehicle. They were rescued by the St. Joseph Fire Department and treated at Lakeland Medical Center for minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor.
