Child dies on board Carnival cruise ship

A young boy from Florida drowned in a swimming pool on the deck of the Carnival cruise ship "Victory."

Tuesday, ABC57 heard from passengers on board that ship who saw rescuers dive into the four-and-a-half foot pool to try and save the 6-year-old.

Eyewitnesses say passengers first started CPR until Carnival's medical team arrived.

"It's so devastating you know, pulled that child up out of the pool and he was limp and his eyes were open and it's just something you don't want to see," said Debi Ciabarella.

There is no law requiring cruise ships to have lifeguards.

Carnival's policy says adults are responsible for supervising children under the age of 13.
