Child hit and killed by neighbor's car in Mishawaka

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A seven-year-old was hit and killed in his Mishawaka backyard Friday evening.

The boy was hit by a car in the 800 block of W. 6th Street in Mishawaka around 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to St. Joseph County dispatch.

The seven-year-old was playing the back yard of their home with his eight-year-old sister.

A 22-year-old woman who lives in the same duplex allegedly pulled into the backyard to park, neglected to see the children sitting on the ground, according to officials.

She struck and ran over the seven-year-old.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) arrived on the scene just before 7 p.m.

After FACT's investigation, they said the seven-year-old was taken to a local hospital.

The child was pronounced dead.
