SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A child was hit by a vehicle at 310 E. South Street in South Bend Thursday morning.

South Bend Police say a two-year-old boy had darted into the road when he was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck then drove away from the scene.
The aunt of the boy says the boy had ran into the road to retrieve a toy. She says the driver hit the brakes when he saw the boy but it was too late.
Police say the boy suffered minor injuries, including a bump on his head. He was taken to the hospital to be looked over.
The suspect is described as a bald black male in his 50's driving a full size white pickup truck. If you have any information, you are asked to contact police or CrimeStoppers.
