Church comforts those grieving during holiday season

ELKHART, Ind. -- The holidays aren't always a joyful time for everybody.  And one church in Elkhart is really reaching out and trying to help those who have experienced loss or hard times during the holiday season.

The Longest Night service was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Elkhart, and it was just one of a growing number of congregations across the country trying to reach out to those who feel little comfort or joy during the holiday season.

"It's just really hard with all the hype and everything that Christmas has become, it's hard for the, for folks to catch on to the joy that this season promises," says David Lawrence, the pastor at First Presbyterian.

He says the goal of the service is not to provide answers for why suffering occurs, but to remind them of the true meaning of Christmas.
