City of Elkhart sees the highest number of homicides in 10 years

Tuesday’s double shooting in Elkhart brings the number of homicides this year to 10, the highest it’s been in the city since 2006.

Police say in each of this year’s homicide cases the victims were targeted, which is often difficult for law enforcement to police.

Sgt. Chris Snyder says to prevent and solve these types of crimes, they need the communities help.

“If you’re in your neighborhood you know what looks right, you know what doesn’t look right. Call us, let us look into that. Then we are obviously able to direct some of our patrols to that area so we can try to figure out what is going on and hopefully prevent something like this from happening,” said Sgt. Snyder.
