CMHU investigating a homicide of 25-year-old man

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man who was shot early Friday morning.

Just after midnight, South Bend Police responded to the area of LaSalle Avenue and Eddy Street after hearing gunshots in the area.
They didn't find any victims, but did find evidence shots had been fired, reports said.

A short time later, police learned a gunshot victim was being treated at Memorial Hospital.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Deundre Lamar Hawkins, was taken into surgery, but was pronounced deceased several hours later.
The CMHU then took over the investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Fort Wayne.

Several witnesses have been interviewed but no suspects are in custody.

If you have any information in this case, please contact the CMHU at 235-5009 or Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP.
