CMHU investigating inmate death at St. Joseph County Jail

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit has launched an investigation following the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail on Saturday.

Police say an inmate was discovered unresponsive just before midnight Saturday in the medical unit of the St. Joseph County Jail.

Emergency technicians were notified of the incident and responded to the jail at approximately 11:56 p.m. The inmate was pronounced deceased at approximately 12:05 a.m.

No emergency measures were taken as the inmate had a do-not-resuscitate order, according to a press release.

The death is currently under investigation by CMHU.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
